I am currently studying towards a Master’s Degree in Data Science through the University of Cape Town. Though my undergraduate degree was in Civil Engineering (2016), I believe my passions lie more in the analytical space of data science. I believe I have the critical thinking and analytic skills necessary for this program gained through both my degrees. Before returning for my master’s degree, I worked for a civil engineering consulting firm in Midrand, Johannesburg. This job demanded problem-solving skills, time management, communication and good interpersonal skills and teamwork as well as dedication to the job. Through my current studies as a data scientist, I have learnt various statistical and machine learning techniques. I am able to perform tasks using tools such as Microsoft Office, R, SQL with some exposure to NoSQL databases as well as visualization tools such as Tableau. I believe that I am more than just a good student. I am scientifically curious, especially when a practical application can be found from research that can further improve the quality of life for people. In addition, I am a hardworking, focused person and strive for excellence in the task at hand.
