I am a conscientious, enthusiastic and research-driven person, with great interest in both theoretical and practical work. I am able to work both under pressure and on time, and have gained ability to work in a team. Due to being appointed as a class representative for many of my classes during my studies, I have possessed and expressed leadership skills. I have completed a consumer science degree which is a four-year programme that focuses on food, nutrition, and includes the theory and practical of food product development, sensory evaluation, marketing, nutrition education, and agricultural extension. In my final year, I have developed shortbread biscuits using chickpeas as part of food product development research. However, during the course of my studies, I have also conducted practical’s within the hospitality industry including the Docshed restaurant (within the university), thus I have developed skills and interests in getting involved in the activities and research done to develop new food products. As part of the Bachelor of Consumer Science programme, I was required to find a suitable host to attain field work experience through work integrated learning. Therefore throughout my five-week in-service training I was exposed to many dimensions within the scope of agriculture, including agro-processing, agro-ecology, agricultural extension, and food & nutrition security. Being an intern at Owen Sitole College of Agriculture gave me moral experience on how to interact with other employees and your superiors, what an everyday work life is like, and most importantly how to tackle work pressure and still be able to produce satisfactory results. I believe that through involvement in product development, I will be able to contribute towards addressing food and nutrition security challenges, and enhancing the safety and nutrition of the food consumed in the country.
