My name is Savannah April, 22 years old and graduated BSc. Biotechnology degree from the University of the Western Cape. My degree in Biotechnology offered a triple major focusing on Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Microbiology. In addition to completing my degree, I have been working as a senior student laboratory demonstrator, tutoring and assessing first year science students. Furthermore, I am currently working as a National Research Foundation (NRF) Microbiologist intern at the Agricultural Research Council. Some of my responsibilities include: ● Preparation of chemical stock solutions, media and buffers. ● Performing microbiological techniques: Compound microscopy, serial dilutions, spread and pour plating, microbial identification, basic microbiological calculations. ● Performing molecular techniques: DNA extractions, PCR and DNA fingerprinting. ● Basic Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. I am well equipped with basic laboratory etiquette, biological skills and techniques. I wish to be trained at an advanced level to achieve the necessary goals with every task assigned to. In the pursuit of knowledge, I have always adopted a rigorous approach in order to attain an in-depth understanding of the subject at hand. I consider myself to be an individual who is dynamic, easily adaptable, purpose driven, hardworking and conscious about managing my time. The experience I have gained thus far has taught me how to build strong relationships with all departments in an organization.
