I have been an accomplished trainer for more than 10 years in both the corporate and private sector. I have achieved my National Diploma with subjects like Control Systems and Industrial Electronics when I was first employed as a millwright apprentice at Iscor after my 2 years national service. At Kentron I was one of only two persons that were responsible for the integration of the APV (Unmanned Piloted Vehicle) system, which included all subsystems like the avionics, RF system and CPU of the aircraft and ground stations before delivering the system for flight tests. At ABI Midrand where I was responsible for the Electrical/ control maintenance of the site from the substation to the line components including speed drives and PLC’s, I started the first predictive and preventative maintenance system, which reduces the down time and increased efficiencies. I started to combine my engineering skills and passion for training when I looked after and mentored the apprentices. I was also responsible for the technical specifications of the then new 2lt line. At Unilever, Boksburg I looked after the total spectrum of engineering training for operator training to graduates. I was also the HRD specialist for the redesign of the pay for skills profiling a competence matrix from which we developed the individual’s training needs and training plan per department. The aim was to ensure plant equipment availability and efficiencies with benchmark and world class practices, which included the writing of the Standard Operating Standards (SOP) that would form part of our training and on-the-job assessments. Some of my development included the completion of a Master certificate in Human resource development- Rand Afrikaans University, Department Human resources management and Program in maintenance engineering- University of Pretoria, Department of mechanical and aeronautical engineering and my Specialized Electrical Installations Code (hazardous locations). I was nominated via a government gazette by the Foodbev SETA for representation on the national G-MET Engineering qualifications evaluations committee that made recommendations to NEDLAC and SAQA. I was part of the steering committee of the first learnership pilot program sponsored by the Bavarian Government under guidance of DR Manfred Dutschke At Titan Helicopter Group, I was appointed as the Business Unit Manager- Training. I was responsible to ensure the currency of all staff as required by the aviation industry. This included all pilots, ground staff, cabin crew (fix wing) and AMO staff. I was also involved with training and more specific internal auditing based on ISO 9000 and safety systems of the different bases. As a HRD Specialist, I have been exposed to all aspects of training and development when I was working for SIMS Kula and as a freelance consultant. I have developed a number of training material packs based on national unit standards for registration with a relevant SETA. I have also developed skills programs for specific competencies. I am a logical thinker and with good faultfinding skills (national top 5 best results in my trade test). I am proficient with MS office including MS Projects. Here is a summary of my experience in different industry sectors; i. Heavy engineering at ISKOR where I qualified as an artisan (millwright)and did a conversion to technician ii. Hi-tech electronics at KENTRON, an Amskor affiliate, as an systems integration technician on the RPV system (Remote Piloted Vehicles/Drones) iii. Power electronics at Current Controls where I started as a service engineer and later the factory manager iv. Textile industry at Silk and Textiles where I was the foreman for the maintenance department v. FMCG and specifically bottling with ABI where I was the control foreman and also the design and control technician on the “New 2Lt” line vi. FMCG and specifically the food sector where I moved into a ETD role in general and later focused on engineering to meet “world class” status vii. Health and Welfare sector with Associated Risk Management Services as the branch manager for the new KZN branch viii. Aviation sector at Titan Helicopter Group as the Business Unit Manager- Training for the group ix. As a program developer, I have developed training material covering the following unit standards; a. 377384 - Describe the use of stores and warehousing in operations b. 377385 - Explain the role of materials handling in the warehouse c. 377362 – Discuss the role of stocktaking in ensuring inventory accuracy d. 377361 - Understand the role of inventory and ordering costs e. 377363 - Apply inventory replenishment and distribution systems f. 377364 - Discuss the role of inventory in a manufacturing environment g. 337360 - Discuss Just In Time (JIT) and Lean Manufacturing h. 377380 - Describe the functions of purchasing and procurement i. 377381 - Apply Total Quality Management (TQM) j. 377386 - Perform material requirements planning (MRP) k. 377382 - Perform forecasting in a manufacturing environment l. 377400 - Perform sales and operations planning m. 377402- Perform master scheduling in the workplace n. 377383 - Planning and controlling in a manufacturing environment 2.
