I consider myself to be a self-driven, hardworking, innovative person with a passion for engineering design, project execution and construction. I take great pleasure in leading and motivating engineering teams in the successful execution and delivery of projects. I enjoy taking on challenges and resolving complex engineering and construction problems. Concept design and implementation thereof is a strong ability I possess and applying this in my profession successfully brings great satisfaction to me. I am passionate about developing and mentoring young engineers and take great pleasure in seeing them through to successful professional registration. Leading, guiding and motivating people for the better comes naturally to me and brings great satisfaction to me. I gained almost three years’ experience in the commercial civil engineering industry in the design of buildings such as multi story office blocks, shopping centers, warehouses, apartment blocks and large residential units. Materials of construction ranged from reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, and timber. Experience was gained in related site inspections, site meetings with clients, architects and contractors. Further experience was gained in fulltime site supervision and administration on roads, earthworks and services contracts. Experience was also gained in structural investigations and report writing. Fourteen years’ experience was gained in the natural resources industry specifically in minerals and metals processing and material handling. Seven years’ experience was gained in the petrochemical industry. Six months’ experience was gained in the power generation industry (wind generated power). In the abovementioned industries, I gained extensive experience in conceptual and detail structural design (including dynamic analysis and design) of reinforced concrete and steel structures such as, but not limited to following: • Multi story plant buildings • Multi story process buildings • Process equipment support structures • Furnace buildings • Heavy duty workshops • Foundations and structures supporting equipment imposing dynamic loads (such as vibrating screens, roll crushers, jaw crushers, vibrating feeders) • Ore storage silos • Material handling structures (such as conveyor support structures, transfer houses, take-ups etc.) • Pipe racks • Water retaining structures • Retaining walls • Raft foundations and foundations in general Some experience was also gained in infrastructural works. Significant experience was gained in Principal/Lead Engineer roles (14 years to date) responsible for leading and managing engineering teams in the execution of medium to large EPCM projects, feasibility studies and cost estimates. Responsibilities as Principal/Lead Engineer included, but were not limited to the following: • Conceptual design/development of buildings, process plant layouts and structures • Preparation and presentation of concept proposals to clients • Preparation of cost estimates • Determination of project scope of work • Determination of work break down structures • Preparation of engineering man-hour estimates • Preparation of tender documentation and technical adjudication of tenders • Preparation of specifications and design criteria documents • Preparation of procedures for construction quality control – reinforced concrete, structural steel and earthworks • Project budget and man-hours control • Management of engineering teams in the execution projects, cost estimates and feasibility studies • Construction quality control monitoring • Site inspections and punching • Review and approval of quality control data books • Issue of completion certificates • General site support • Ensuring safety site walks and chairing safety meetings • Assisting in contract administration • Resolution of engineering and site related problems • Structural investigations and preparation related reports • Mentoring and supervising candidate engineers
