I completed my Diploma in Environmental Health (2015) and have 3 years of experience in the mining industry with skills relative to the requirements for the Health and Safety Officer in want. The nature of my course, training and previous work experience have prepared me for this position. They involved a great deal of independent research, requiring initiative, self motivation and a wide range of skills. For one course/module Occupational Health and Safety 1,2 an understanding of the aspects and duties of a Safety Officer in this industry was essential, as did my exposure in working within the SHERQ department in Occupational Hygiene and the short lived experience as a Systems and Compliance Officer. I found all of these very stimulating and expanding in preparation to work as a Safety Officer. I further went on to obtain an intermediate certificate in Mine Environmental Control, Assistant Certificate with South African Institute for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) and Certificate for Future Leaders Developmental from WITS Business School. All these gave me a great deal of flexibility and training in taking on the role of a Junior Health and Safety Officer and I am able to take on the responsibility of this position immediately, and have the enthusiasm and determination to ensure that I make a success of it.
