I was born into a stevedoring family in Durban in 1970, had to wait 19 years before I could follow in my Father’s footsteps. I entered into the service of Keeley stevedoring in 1989 and was immediately recognized to be a natural leader and organiser. Within a year I was promoted to a supervisory position. I gained experience in the loading and discharging of Steel and Paper products as well as general cargo and heavy lifts. From 2012 onwards I worked as a super-cargo on ships operated by BBC Chartering, Thorco Shipping, Thoresen Shipping, Austral Asia Line discharging of windmills, Fairseas loading and offloading of PPC Cement, Project Cargo and Copenship , Ultrabulk loading / discharging of granite, project Cargo and Heavy lifts. I joined Jessegaard Marine when a vacancy arose within that long established Company, which needed a Manager due to expansion of its services. Since then I have been involved with granite and project cargo carried by Ultrabulk, Thoresen Shipping, BBC and Thorco as well as the import of large quantities of cement, salt and containers into the Democratic Republic of Congo by PPC using vessels operated by Bulk Africa Lines/ Fair Seas International. Plan and coordinates loading and unloading of ships' cargo and prepares reports on type, amount, and condition of cargo to protect company from claims for damage or shortage: Examines cargo lists to determine types of cargo that can be loaded together. Check Stowage Factors / Load rotation and rotation of Discharge (If different) / Etc. Prepare loading and stowage plan to ensure that weight of cargo is equally distributed in hatches. Inform shippers and supervisor of "Cargo checkers / Inspectors" of loading time and point, and supervisors of stevedores of cargo to load and location of load. Prepare reports, such as tonnage carried, breakage, overages, and shortages. Act as an agent for ship-owners in foreign ports. Inspect cargoes, lashing and weight distribution (When required) before, during and after loading to ensure safe sea voyage during carriage and ensure the same condition at receiving point is achieved. Travelled throughout Africa (Where required) to load cargoes in various ports (Cargoes such as break bulk, project/General Cargoes and abnormal loads.
