I have been stuck in an ever-decreasing desk-bound corporate job market, believing that my next position would possibly be my last. For many of us in South Africa, this is a very real situation. Job opportunities are not too easy to come by and day by day doors get closed in our faces due to unfair labour practices and ill-advised legislation designed to favour the inexperienced majority. Quantity versus quality. More and more frustratingly we see our valuable skills being turned away and ultimately wasted. Many times, I have thought about how to break away and do my own thing, but that of course is an enormous step to take, and one would need a lot of financial resources to be successful. My dream is to be able to remotely contribute to companies willing to make use of my vast experience and to give me the opportunity to add value by giving back to the project management community in whatever way I can.
