I worked in a diamond mine in production and projects for one year as a metallurgist in training after which I joined their research office for three years. I then worked as a process development metallurgist in a mineral sands mine for over two years. For ten years I worked in engineering sales in the mining industry and two of those years in the oil and gas industry. In the oil and gas industry I worked on a project to develop suppliers for a new crude oil project the country was about to embark on. My thesis for my Masters degree was based on; i.e. addressing issues of supplier capacity / capability in the oil and gas industry in view of construction of a Greenfield crude oil refinery as proposed by the South African government, as well as supplier development efforts needed to be implemented, by government and or all stakeholders. The time spent has given me enough experience with face to face interaction with people from different backgrounds and experience in team work. I have computer skills. My work entailed dealing with client queries and delivering on their needs. In my work, a lot of interdepartmental team work was required between mechanical engineering, procurement, finance and project management departments from which I needed to compile convincing sales documents for clients to secure a sale. My work most certainly required professionalism and that I work under pressure. Attention to detail was a requirement to ensure we deliver exactly what clients required. From the proposals and tender preparation, technical test-work results analysis, commissioning work that I did means that I needed to work independently to meet deadlines and that I can cope well with varying work requirements and responsibilities.
