I am a multiple award-winning journalist, editor and book author of Free Fall and The Tyranny of Growth. I practiced journalism for more than a decade before becoming a financial magazine editor in the early 2000s. I was editor of Enterprise magazine, Editor-in-Chief of Business in Africa Group publications and editor of Finweek magazine. Jaded by the rise of quick-churn 'soundbite' journalism, the general decline in the quality of news and rising disinformation and misinformation in media, I traded my suits for casual slacks and made my way into academia as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Johannesburg and then back to my first love, creative writing. Now I strive in my writing to integrate complex issues, recognising that news emerges from multiple actors in complex social, political and economic settings. My literary approach brings clarity to fast-paced, complex issues in tight prose.
