EXPERIENCE [STUDIES AND CONTENT] My experience began at Kenyatta University where I received a 2.1 bachelor’s degree in Film Technology and Theatre Arts. During my academic years I spent my time working with Creatives Garage, Jesuit Hakimani International, Liquid Entertainment Arts, The Japanese Information & Cultural Centre among other Art Organizations and Non Governmental Organizations that deal with community outreach programmes. This nurtured a better understanding of the issues rampant in most communities here in Kenya. After graduating I free lanced as a broadcast journalist and producer at Talanta Institute [http://www.******.***] which exposed me to the newsroom’s operations. I retained a passion for telling African Narratives through African Voices throughout this time. I later came across a fellowship program by The Aga Khan University and Facebook. I was selected among 300 candidates for the Mobile Journalism 2020 Fellowship program, the main objective of which was to birth Kenya’s first Mobile Journalists to identify, research and produce content unique to digital platforms different from the norms instilled by mainstream media. Essentially, I was my own mobile news content production house. The facilitators placed me at http://www.******.***.ke, which is one of the major digital media companies in Kenya, to enhance my skill set and hands-on experience under revered mentors and colleagues in the media industry in Africa. My content majored on current happenings, re-purposed stories and projected issues in Kenya and those associated with the world. These were majorly in the form of Feature Stories. WHAT MAKES ME THE BEST CANDIDATE Working under Facebook’s Mobile Journalism program exposed me to training and mentorship from industry professionals. The opportunity also empowered me with rare digital insight on various multimedia platforms. It also fostered relationships with like-minded colleagues and sources who intend to demystify the way African stories are told. Working at a major digital media company equipped me with a fast-paced and ethical work delivery. This sharpened my skills in proposal writing, research, filming, editing, sound design, graphic design, marketing, distribution and administrative duties. A sense of acute discipline and accountability was a major attribute that I also acquired. My educational background and experience has nurtured a creative and open minded though process. This allows me to express issues in a relatable way to my audience by generating their attention both visually and through audio. Working for organizations that are driven by community outreach programmes has instilled in me an approachable personality and physical attributes capable of working under extreme condition across the country. My curious and outgoing nature has developed technical and interpersonal skills that allow me to be versatile and a problem solver. I tend to foster relations with colleagues and employers in order to better understand their desires and expected outcome for each and every task.
