I am a 53 year old male, married, with two children and stays in my own house in Kathu. I am at present employed by United Manganese of Kalahari (UMK). I started my career at Sishen Mine in 1998 as an electrical apprentice. I qualified as an electrician in 1990 and in 1991 I did a 4 months mechanical course similar to a millwright. In 1998 I was appointed as the electrical foreman in the plant till September 2016. I was responsible for the maintenance of conveyors, crushers, screens, staggers, reclaimers and load out stations. Most of these equipment consists of hydraulic systems, especially the load out stations. Therefore I am familiar with mechanical and hydraulic maintenance of equipment. In October 2016 I joined the UMK team as the General Engineering Superintendent, and was appointed in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act. I am responsible for all the Engineering activities at UMK, include the railway siding in conjunction with TFR, but excluding TMM’s and vehicles. Due to the size of the company most of the work is performed by contractors, therefore I am solely responsible for managing contractors. I am currently busy to implement the guideline of the DMR regarding contractor management. I did a national diploma in both human resources and electrical engineering (N6). I also have a certificate in project management, issued in conjunction with the University of Stellenbosch. If my application is successful, I could commence work within a month’s notice.
