My Boilermaker career started out as a young man of 16 helping a neighbor making burglar bars and safety gates. Then I started work at a steel company who made springs for trucks. My duties included welding and cutting torch work. Then I moved on to a company where my duties included making chutes, man carriages, scrapers, hoppers and hopper ramps. At the following company I did plant construction work, pipe work and chutes. After that I was employed as a Plant Foreman for a crusher plant at a big mine, my duties included giving workers there orders for the day and ordering the material and parts needed for the work to be done. The estimated run time of this plant was 6 months, I ran it for 18 months. I was then permanently employed at a Gold mine, where I worked on die shaft and loading station. Duties includes doing shaft examining and fixing and replacing structures. I then opened my own Labour Hire and worked on the mine on the conveyers. Working as boilermaker on a platinum mine on the shaft section and backfill plant, my duties included maintenance to chute, conveyer structures, bins and cages. In 2000 I moved to the Northern Province where I started working on platinum mines. It started at Northam Platinum Mine in Thabazimbi. In 2002 I moved to Limpopo and started work as boilermaker on a new mine, building shafts and later working en servicing the shaft, until 2003 when I was appointed Boilermaker Foreman till I was retrenched, I worked for 3 months in Mali and when I came back started working on a Lumber company, repairing and constructing a burned down mill. I am working part time at the moment for myself and as contractor at a local mine. Here follows my working experience and what I can do as boilermaker. At the last contractor I worked for I constructed a pipeline. My expertise in boilermaker is pipe work, constructing and manufacturing. I love working with steel, I can read plans, I am a hard worker, I put effort in my work, my work is always neat and tidy and I consider myself a excellent boilermaker. I like to say that pipe work is my specialty. What I can do? Pumps, chutes, pipes, hoppers, conveyors, pump bases, u name it and I can make it. I can rebuild motorcars, I can spray paint. Steelwork, or let me rather say working, is my life.
