October 2014 – 2021 In 2014, he joined the AFGRI Group as an Investment Director responsible for Capital allocation. During his tenure, he oversaw and advised on transactions more than R10 billion, across the agriculture value chain, including a multiple “group defining” investments; epitomized by the acquisition of the Bank of Athens by GroCapital Holdings. He recently served as Chief Executive Office of GroCapital Advisory Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of the AFGRI group – offering Corporate Finance services in the Agricultural sector and remains responsible for the inhouse portfolio of investments. GroCapital Financial Services was, by value, the largest holding in our portfolio – managing a post-harvest lending book of R2,5 billion. As chairman of the various boards, Tutu led a portfolio turnaround strategy for the Group’s portfolio of Investments; the team registered outperformance in four out of the five historically non-performing businesses. June 2010 – 2014 Upon his return to South Africa, Tutu joined Standard Bank Investment Banking, Mining Finance team specialising in both Project and Term Funding (Balance Sheet). As a Senior Manager, Tutu had a unique exposure to debt capital markets suitably complementing his Equities Investing background. Whilst at Standard Bank, Tutu was involved in the concluding/valuation of a few high-profile transactions, including funding the: Konkola Copper Mines (USD700m), Waterberg Coal Company (ZAR 8 billion), and Fraser Alexander (ZAR 500 million). October 2007 – 2010 Tutu joined Genesis Asset Management, LLP (UK), as a Commodities Research Analyst – in the Africa Portfolio team. Genesis is an Emerging markets (equities) Manager with a strict adherence to a ‘value investing’ philosophy. During his time at Genesis, he gained a rich experience in making investments in developing markets, particularly the African continent. The 2008 global financial (credit) crisis provided valuable investing experience for Tutu, as commodity prices and most sovereign ratings collapsed. Nothing like investing through a severe downturn! October 2004 – 2007 Tutu started his career as a JSE-certified Equities and Derivatives Trader at Stanlib Asset Management – where he gained valuable financial markets experience. He concluded his employment with Stanlib as a Senior Trader responsible for key sectors like Properties, Retail, Construction and Diversified Industrials. Tutu majored in Mathematics and Econometrics (Wits University), Completed a Private Equity Executive Course (Harvard Business School) (2018). To resume (2022) the pursuit of his MSc (Corporate Finance) through the University of Liverpool. Tutu is a certified Director (IoDA).
