I am a BSc Honours in Environmental Sciences graduate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. I personally believe that the skills and experiences that I have gained through my tertiary education makes me a strong candidate for this particular opportunity. I am a fast learner; a hard worker and I am also able to work effectively under pressure. I am good in time management as a result I always deliver on time and able to meet deadlines. I have excellent communication skills, interacts easily, and work well with others. I am conversant with various computer packages/programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel Spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and some experience with ARCGIS from the GIS modules I have attended. Throughout my enrolment at University of KwaZulu-Natal, I have gained both theoretical and practical skills in Environmental Sciences which allowed me to be able to apply my knowledge to come up with solutions to environmental and social issues. Within Environmental Sciences, I am intrigued by sustainability/sustainability development among other concepts. This is because sustainability focuses on finding a balance between environmental, social, and economical factors. This is because of the negative impacts that human activities such as production may have on the environment. Thus, sustainable development calls for the efficient use of natural resources while conserving them for future generations. I believe that I can be a part of the team that uses research and environmental science-based knowledge and information to come up with solutions to social and environmental issues. I have interacted personally with the environment during an environmental management module that I did in my Honours degree. We had site visits in legal and illegal dumpsites at Marianhill and Pietermaritzburg to understand the impacts that such sites may have on the environment and on the people surrounding these places. We also visited the Mpophomeni Wetland and assessed the ecosystem services of that wetland using a WET-EcoServices tool. We assessed this wetland using this tool to test whether the tool can be used by both experienced and inexperienced users. This tool was meant to assist the community with monitoring the wetland on their own. We also had been to biodiversity offsets around Pietermaritzburg, these places have been created to conserve biodiversity and to compensate for biodiversity loss that may have occurred during human activities such as construction.
