I am currently pursuing my Masters in Law at the University of the Western Cape. My academic studies and work have given me a good understanding of the field of law. I would very much like to enhance the work and knowledge I have gained thus far. In a nutshell, I am seeking an opportunity to cultivate and complement my theoretical and practical knowledge of law. I am a very determined and diligent individual. I have been consistently acclaimed and commended for my academic and organizational excellence. I have been awarded with the 2015 Senior Merit Award and in 2016 I graduated on top of my class for International Human Rights, a 2016 winter vacation programme offered by Howard University, a University of the United States. I passed all my modules at first instance, with an overall performance that is satisfactory and above average, and likewise completed my degree in a record of time. Throughout my academic career at the University, I worked with integrity and have been a law abiding student. I have demonstrated my clear vision for practicing law through a number of ways and the clearest example is my involvement with the UWC Law Clinic, where I worked as a Student Legal Advisor. In terms of work experience, I recently completed my Articles of Clerkship at the University of the Western Cape Law Clinic. My work include consultation with clients and taking instructions properly (both civil and criminal matters), recording clients instructions, managing clients expectations, managing clients files, attending courts on clients instructions, conducting mediation as per clients instructions, adhere to ethics required in legal practice, filing, serving and collecting legal documents and producing stats monthly. The skills I developed thus far includes, how to consult properly with a client, an adequate way of recording client’s instructions, managements of client’s expectations, research techniques, file arrangement and management, how to conduct trial properly, court etiquette and how to correspond properly with opponents. Likewise this includes a thorough understanding of all services procedures, involved in the area of Maintenance and other areas of Family Law. I further gained the ability to work with the public in a professional and empathetic manner. In 2016 I was assigned to work as a Student Administration Assistant in the Dean’s office, UWC Law Faculty. My work entails filing of various documents, helping out in the planning of events and functions, booking of venues. I also worked at the faculty’s script room, where I would collect and hand out written scripts and assignments to students. Both these positions relied heavily on my ability to work under pressure solely and as part of a team, developing and maintaining a good relationship with the lectures and students, and meeting of deadlines. I have gained the skill of managing a challenging working environment. I have developed an overwhelming work ethic. One of my final year electives that I enrolled for was Legal Process, a module practically offered by UWC Law Clinic. As students we, under the supervision of our lectures who are also practicing attorneys for the Clinic, would consult and help clients faced with real legal issues. Through this module I dealt with an array of diverse matters involving, contractual disputes, deceased estate, child abuse, delictual claims, car rental dispute, instituting divorce proceedings and lease agreement dispute. I have learnt the basics of the consultation process which includes, establishing a client-attorney relationship, identification of legal issues, recording consultation notes, separating and placing in chronological sequence of all correspondences and giving advice. My writing and verbal communication skills were developed. I also participated in a Mock Trials where I got knowledge on court appearances and processes. In terms of organizational experience, I am currently the Chairperson of the Youth Fellowship of the WPT Ndibongo Memorial Congregation, the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (UPCSA). My duties include, providing leadership, to ensure that the Executive Committee functions properly, to ensure the organization is managed effectively, to present the organization as its figurehead, to have knowledge of the organization constitution thoroughly, directing and guiding the meetings in their deliberations, observing rules of debate and applying them evenly, making sure that there is full participation during meetings and that all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and carried out. In 2012, I was appointed as the Clerk for the Youth Fellowship of the WPT Ndibongo Memorial Congregation, the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (UPCSA). The position granted me an opportunity to be part of the executive. My work includes, filing of organizational books and documents, recording of minutes and reports, respecting the confidentiality of issues discussed in meetings, making sure that I prepare records for all proceedings, planning and scheduling meetings, chairing of various meetings and discussions. This position has relied on my ability to provide quality and accurate information. I have developed skills in basic computer programme, the use of Microsoft and PowerPoint, creating and saving files. I further developed skills of independent and analytical thinking, and leadership. Since 2012 I volunteered as a tutor for the Ikamva Youth Organization. My duties include tutoring, mentoring and motivating young high school pupils who are part of the organization. Through this organization I have developed the skills in patience, interpersonal, teamwork, effective communication and strategic planning.
